EN 1317 Test Parameters

Bridge Parapets are designed to provide levels of containment that limit penetration of errant vehicles, and to protect others in the vicinity by redirecting vehicles on to a path as close as possible to the line of the parapet.
BS 6779 was used for around 20 years and had proven itself over time to be an all encompassing document. The standard set out defined criteria for both testing requirements and workmanship standards of Bridge Parapets.
BS EN 1317 covers all Vehicle Restraint Systems including Safety Fences. The big difference between BS 6779 and BS EN 1317 apart from the coverage of products is that BS EN 1317 is a performance based standard. This basically means that the standard is focused on the performance of a product. Workmanship standards and quality controls, these are now determined by the manufacturer.
