The procedure for the approval of Vehicle Restraint Systems has now changed. Previously when a product was tested to EN 1317 the test facility would provide a test report which was sent to The Highways Agency (HA) for review. Subsequently the HA would issue a letter confirming that the product was either acceptable or not for use on the Highway. The new procedure is that the test facility will issue a report to a Notified Body as opposed to the HA. The Notified Body will then either accept or reject the product as suitable for the road network. If the product is accepted an acceptance letter is sent to the manufacturer and the HA for inclusion into the approved vehicle restraint systems document. Currently the notified body in the UK is MIRA
